The European Central Bank expects that the digital euro (CBDC) will be used not only in the European Union but also in other countries. That is stated in the report of the regulator, published at the end of last week.
It also notes that research into the creation and application of CBDCs will continue in 2021. The ECB will not rush to launch the token.
Earlier it became known that the European regulator applied for registration of the "digital euro" trademark. Thus, the EU Central Bank does not refuse to launch a regulated cryptocurrency, but it will not rush in this direction.
The report notes: "The potential advantages of the digital euro and the rapid changes in the retail payments landscape mean that the euro system must be equipped with infrastructure for token issues in the future. The digital euro could provide people with access to a secure form of money in a rapidly changing digital world."

The regulator believes that CBDC will be in great demand not only in the eurozone but also in other regions. That is a convenient and environmentally friendly tool that can be used when paying for goods and services.
The ECB wants to create a stablecoin backed by fiat money. That will ensure a stable price for this instrument.
In parallel, the Central Bank announced its readiness to cooperate with the expert community in analyzing the consequences of the launch of a regulated token.
