The Bakkt crypto platform has announced the launch of an application with which consumers can pay at retail outlets, including the popular Starbucks coffee shop chain.

A statement from Bakkt product director Mike Blandina said the application will launch in the first half of 2020, with Starbucks becoming the first connected partner.
He wrote, that they will launch a consumer application to uncover the value of digital assets and new ways to transfer and track them. Outlets will gain access to a wider range of customers with higher purchasing power.
Blandina also made it clear that the application may not be limited to just Bitcoin.
He added that the key feature of their model is to support an expanded set of digital assets, including cryptocoins.
Recall that in August 2018, Starbucks became part of the original participants in the project to create the Bakkt platform, which currently offers institutional investors Bitcoin futures.
At the same time, the upcoming launch of the consumer application was reported back in March, although it was then assumed that this would happen before the end of this year.
