The creator of the Internet meme “Pepe the Frog” Matt Fury will release a limited collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT). The artist told Decrypt about this.

The PEGZ collection includes NFT portraits of characters created by the author in 2D, 3D, and animation. For every ten collected tokens, users will receive an additional one - with the image of Pepe.

“This is a playful project inspired by the collectibles of my youth. For collectors, the first things are always the best. We start with these token-like objects that depict the portraits of my pets,” said Fury.

The author explained that his interest in NFT is largely due to its ability to challenge people’s perceptions of property rights.

“Everything else is bootleg. I am very inspired by the bootlegs in my life and my art, “said the artist.

Fury created Pepe the Frog in 2006. The meme is used for free by different people: from forum users to members of ultra-right movements.

In 2019, the author sued the Infowars website for illegal use of the image. The case was settled in 2020 - the owners of the portal agreed to pay Fury $ 15,000.
