A bill brought in the NY State Senate considers halting BTC mining for 3 years to study deeply its consequences for the surroundings.

Bill 6486 was put forward by Senator Kevin Parker to the Senate's Committee on Environmental Conservation.If approved Bitcoin mining will be allowed only after a full review of the industry’s impact on the surrounding area. The review includes discovering what are the results of BTC mining on water, air, and wildlife.
There would be a public comment timeframe of 120 days and at minimum 1 public hearing.
Mining operators that may prevent the achievement of the State's environment protection strategy will be disallowed to operate.According to the bill, a lot of NY mining places work in previous or modified fossil energy power stations. The way of producing new bitcoins has been a subject of concern earlier. A recent analysis done by Cambridge University shows that BTC requires more electricity than Argentina.
