In February Mastercard hired 500 new team members to hold discussions with banks and retailers about using crypto technology and non-fungible tokens. Other payments companies are interested in the sector too.

According to a tweet by trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the filings point out the intentions for NFT-backed media, virtual world payments, marketplaces, e-commerce transactions in the digital world, etc.

Along with this, Mastercard partners with a number of crypto services providers to expand its crypto services. Among Mastercard partners are crypto exchanges Gemini, Uphold, Coinbase, Binance and others. Last month, the company revealed a collaboration with Australia's largest crypto exchange BTC Markets to allow customers to make payments via bank transfer.
