Leading financial services provider Mastercard has applied for about 15 crypto and metaverse trademarks on April 4. Among them are filings for virtual cards and payments, NFTs, crypto and NFT marketplaces, etc.

In February Mastercard hired 500 new team members to hold discussions with banks and retailers about using crypto technology and non-fungible tokens. Other payments companies are interested in the sector too.
According to a tweet by trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the filings point out the intentions for NFT-backed media, virtual world payments, marketplaces, e-commerce transactions in the digital world, etc.

Along with this, Mastercard partners with a number of crypto services providers to expand its crypto services. Among Mastercard partners are crypto exchanges Gemini, Uphold, Coinbase, Binance and others. Last month, the company revealed a collaboration with Australia's largest crypto exchange BTC Markets to allow customers to make payments via bank transfer.
