Thanks to a fairly reasonable price for electricity, Argentina has been and is a very attractive country for companies that are mining bitcoin. But regular media reports suggest that this is about to change as state-owned electricity wholesaler Cammesa is planning to raise its price for mining companies.
Cammesa has become interested in large electricity consumers due to frequent power cuts in some provinces. So, the company intends to find out if they are not bitcoin miners because it is for this reason that disruptions in the supply of electricity occur. If this is the case, then they must show how much electricity they use, so that the company can regulate (more precisely, raise) the price of electricity for them.
It is worth noting that so far the state-owned wholesaler has only sent letters to companies asking them to report their actual electricity consumption. However, this does not mean, the message says, that in case of misunderstanding between the parties, the Argentine government will intervene in this issue, starting to conduct unscheduled visits and checks to potential mining businessmen.
