What is Filecoin?
Filecoin is a decentralized storage network which converts cloud storage into an algorithmic market. It's a payment system founded by Protocol Labs and forms on top of InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) enabling users to rent unused hard drive space. The deals are registered by using blockchain. Filecoin is still in its testnet level. It will operate on its own blockchain when the network launches. The protocol has its native token Filecoin (FIL) which stimulates miners to deliver storage to customers. Filecoin users also can spend the token to hire miners who will afterwards save or distribute data. Filecoin will help to minimize the availability limitations for stockpile contributors and make cloud storage easy to use. This way beginners have the same opportunities as experienced users. Storage providers will race actively to store the data and provide yielding alternatives at the best prices. Filecoin (IOU) XFIL is a tradable IOU token on Poloniex that empowers the users who own XFIl at a particular time in the future to get Filecoin (FIL).
