Thailand cinema allows crypto

Leading cinema operator and entertainment services provider in Thailand, Major Cineplex Group now enables buying tickets with BTC.

Local press Siam Rath states that the broadest cinema chain launches a crypto payment study project to assist innovations.

For this purpose, Cineplex teamed up with a local crypto trading platform Zipmex and payments hub RapidZ. On March 4, Major Cineplex Group's movie theatre chain based in Bangkok, Major Ratchayothin became the first to allow BTC as a payment method. Visitors obtained tickets using QRs provided by RapidZ.

Cineplex Group plans to expand the pilot to the rest of 39 spots over the capital till the end of this year.

This is an unprecedented case for any Thai movie company to authorize payments in crypto assets.

A representative of the chain, Narut Jiansanong noted that the goal of the pilot is to draw clients interested in crypto. He mentioned that currently there are around 1 M people in Thailand who own Bitcoin. This is 2% of the country's adults.
