In the fall of 2021, a law recognizing bitcoin as a means of payment began to operate in El Salvador. The initiator of the adoption of this document was the President of the Latin American state, Nayib Bukele.

The Institute of Public Opinion at the José Simeón Cañas University conducted a survey and found that more than 70% of El Salvadorans do not use cryptocurrency and do not see any advantages in the new law.

The study involved 1270 citizens of the countries, and 71% of them are sure that the law did not bring them any benefit.

12.8% of Salvadorans said that the BTC law slightly improved their economic situation. This category of respondents sometimes uses cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services.

6.1% of those surveyed turned out to be supporters of the legalization of bitcoin. They often use the coin, and their financial situation has improved since the entry into force of the relevant law.

The weak pace of cryptocurrency adoption in El Salvador is indicated by many surveys.

For example, 20% of the country's citizens use the official Chivo crypto wallet to store coins. 60% of the country's residents have installed this application on their smartphones, but practically do not use it.
