As Aspen reports, Zuckerberg is going to speak with Harvard Professor Cass Sunstein, who was a consultant for Facebook on events related to social media and democracy. The conversation will be dedicated to “government regulation, innovations and shifts to privacy”.
News about Zuckerberg’s upcoming speech was not listed on the website of the festival even as recently as Monday. Though now it is going to be live-streamed on both Zuckerberg’s Facebook page and Aspen Ideas’ platform.
Facebook has faced with a criticism flow over its use of users’ private data. The Federal Trade Commission is attending continuing research that could result in fines varying from $3 billion to $5 billion for Facebook. Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal informed that Facebook had "uncovered emails" that could show Zuckerberg "knew of problematic privacy practices" at the company.
Facebook has always heard callings for growing regulation of the company, but starting from June 18, when Zuckerberg announced the Libra, the company met a real opposition. Even the US House Financial Services Committee and Senate banking committee set up hearings on the currency in the next month.
Let’s see, if Mark Zuckerberg’s speech will change the mood of governments and the public or not.
