Former mayor of Bogota, Colombian politician, and presidential candidate Gustavo Petro finds it will be beneficial for the country to follow the example of El Salvador and mine BTC using natural resources.

On October 1, the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele announced that the country started to mine Bitcoin using volcanic energy, thus becoming the first country to do so.

Gustavo Petro finds the move inspirational. Retweeting the news, the Colombian senator suggested that the Pacific coast takes advantage of waterfalls and mine cryptocurrencies instead of producing cocaine.

Colombia leads the list of countries in the production of cocaine. There are large plantations of coca on the Pacific coast of the country.

In his tweet, Gustavo Petro also shared his opinion about crypto saying that virtual currency is pure information and therefore energy.

Many assume that there is a high chance of Colombia's making BTC legal tender. Earlier, in August, Colombia's Digital Transformation Advisor Jehudi Castro Sierra said he believes Bitcoin legalization will be the right decision.
