Afterwards, the third and final event for the blockchain's full implementation of smart contracts capabilities will follow.

The IOHK team said in the announcement that Alonzo HFC will be the most significant upgrade so far, as it presents the foundations for an exciting new era of smart contracts on Cardano.

With the Alonzo upgrade, Cardano will complete the Shalley era of its roadmap and start the Goguen phase. It's focused on smart contracts development. The next phase will improve the network's scaling and the final one will change the voting and treasury systems.

On September 2, the Plutus smart contract platform was deployed on the test net. That day the native coin of Cardano blockchain, ADA reached its all-time high of $3.10 on CoinMarketCap.
