A group of clients now are able to hold and transfer Bitcoin and Ether, while the bank will store the keys necessary for accessing and transferring assets. BNY Mellon will deliver the same bookkeeping services for digital assets that it offers to fund managers for their portfolios of stocks, bonds, etc.

BNY Mellon CEO of Securities Services Digital, Roman Regelman said that with Digital Asset Custody the institution continues its journey of trust and innovation into the advancing digital assets space while embracing technology and partnering with fintechs.

The release mentioned a recent survey by the bank that pointed out the significant institutional demand for an infrastructure for traditional and digital assets.
