Indonesia has joined the countries wishing to launch a national digital currency (CBDC).
According to Reuters, with the help of the token, the country's Central Bank expects to speed up the processing of internal and external transactions. In addition, the emergence of an innovative tool will create conditions for increasing the availability of financial services for the population and business.
The head of the Bank of Indonesia, Perry Vargio, said at a press conference that CBDC will appear on the market in the form of the so-called digital rupee. This token will become the same payment instrument as fiat money.
