What is Hedera?
Hedera Hashgraph is a DLT (distributed ledger technology) that exploits a new workframe of decentralized consensus. Based on the Proof of Stake mechanism, the system empowers dApps working at a web-scale. Hedera Hashgraph allows the development and implementation of smart contracts, file transmits, and other operations. Hedera Consensus Service, open on the Hedera Mainnet, enables engineers to build verifiable time-stamps and ordered events for any application. The protocol states it can deliver over 10,000 transactions in a second (TPS). The network was established by Leemon Baird in 2016. In August 2018 the ICO was held and a year after (September 2019) the launch of the mainnet took place. During the ICO, investors were able to trade the platform's in-built token HBAR. The token empowers the network's services serving as a payment method and security. HBAR has a maximum summative supply of 50 B units. Data shows that around seven billion which equals 14% were in circulation as of January 2021.
