In the United States, Republican legislators believe that it is necessary to restrict the use of the Chinese digital yuan at the upcoming Beijing Olympics. The senators argued their decision, referring to espionage by the PRC.

China announced that the digital yuan is going to be used as part of the 2022 Olympic Games, in particular, for retail. The news greatly worried US lawmakers, who saw the "innovation" of the PRC as a danger and risk to the personal data of athletes.

Republicans Marsha Blackburn, Roger Wicker, and Cynthia Lummis have officially announced their intention to prevent China from adopting the digital yuan in competitions. In their opinion, the PRC hopes that guests of the games will open electronic accounts in this virtual currency and continue to use it upon returning home. Thus, according to the US, China wants to get the personal data of Americans and spy on their accounts.
