To the question of whether he encourages businesses in New York to accept BTC or other cryptos, Eric Adams said they will examine the idea, treating it carefully.
NY mayor stressed that being an empire state, NY is a centre of innovations including self-driving cars and drone developments, sciences, etc.
Adams said when he talked about blockchain technology and BTC, many people started to show interest. Next, he said that schools must teach about the industry and the new method of carrying out payments.
Recently Jason Furman, a US economist, who served as the Chairman of President Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, criticized Adams's move saying it was a bad strategy for the city, a bad investment decision and seems like a conflict of interest. To this, the mayor said although he respects Furman's opinion, he looks at things differently.
Adams noted that volatility is part of any market. He added that he wants New York to be a centre of innovation regardless of what that innovation is and not be afraid to look at every era of technological advancement while developing the country and the city.
