The cumulative number of DDoS attacks in the world in Q3 2021 increased by almost 24% compared to the same period in 2020.
In August, a record number of such attacks per day was recorded over the past few years - more than eight thousand. Most of the hackers' targets were in the United States, Hong Kong, and China.
Cybersecurity experts at Kaspersky Lab say that stealthy mining and DDoS attack groups have fought for resources over the past two years, as many botnets have been used for both purposes.

“Earlier we saw a decline in the number of DDoS attacks associated with the explosive growth of the cryptocurrency rate, and now we are fixing the reallocation of resources. DDoS is profitable, and we think that the number of such incidents will continue to increase in the Q4 because traditionally this happens by the end of the year,” the company said.
