Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is known for his positive attitude towards BTC.

He recently launched an initiative to pay local government officials a salary in BTC. Besides, the mayor believes that it is possible to allow residents of his city to pay taxes in cryptocurrency.

During a conversation with journalist Laura Shin, the Mayor of Miami stressed that the lion's share of bitcoins is mined outside the US. Moreover, up to 90% of the electricity used for mining is generated by "dirty sources".

This trend poses an environmental threat to the world. According to Suarez, the US should become the largest miner.

However, the authorities and businesses need to reorient themselves to renewable energy sources. That is, the mayor of Miami believes that his country should become the leader of the so-called "green" mining.

Suarez said: "It would benefit the crypto community if we mined more cryptocurrency in the US because we are generating clean energy."

Suarez also noted that in the future we will see how Bitcoin mining predominantly uses solar energy.
