According to the blockchain explorer EtherScan, hackers started to attack the actor's wallet at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. The wallet was controlled by Murray's business partners at The Chive and Project Venkman. The actor's team told CoinDesk that they had started an investigation cooperating with the crypto security firm Chainanalysis to identify the hackers.

The auction winner Mishap72 replaced the lost funds by sending 120 Ethers (worth around $187,500) to Chive Charities.

The NFT consultancy Project Venkman moved Murray's high-value non-fungible tokens including a Damien Hirst NFT, CryptoPunks, a Pudgy Penguin, to other wallets to prevent them from possible attacks. Bill Murray's collection of 800 collectibles are also saved.

As for the stolen cryptocurrencies, the team said they were sent to an address connected to Binance and Unionchain.ai.
