Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum environment, Optimism informed about postponing the mainnet release no sooner than July. The rollout was expected to go live this week. According to Optimism, the launch date isn't certain as it requires the united work of the Ethereum community.
Particularly, the company emphasized they can't open mainnet to the public by themselves. It will be through a partnership between the Optimism team, outlines, and basic work-frame services such as oracles, wallets, nodes, etc. So, the company mentioned its goal is to provide enough time for them to integrate, audit and test.
Optimism, previously called Plasma Group started to develop a Rollup-based Ethereum scaling solution in June 2019. The rollups are meant to make Ethereum activities time and cost-effective.

In January 2021, Optimism "soft launched" its Optimistic Virtual Machine (OVM) with derivatives liquidity protocol Synthetix. OVM It includes converting Ethereum smart contracts into and deploying them in the core network without the need to change its code.
