Buterin mentioned that while Bitcoiners think BTC is 80% complete, Etherum supporters consider the system to be complete 40%. However, 40% will increase with the expected Ethereum upgrade, the Merge. With that, Ethereum will start relying on the Proof-of-Stake mechanism instead of Proof-of-Work.

According to Buterin, the Merge will make the blockchain 55% complete. The transition aims to make Ethereum more powerful and robust in many ways.

Recently, Ethereum devs announced the expected date for the event, which is September 19. Buterin says at the end of the roadmap, Ethereum’s scalability will increase essentially, and it will be able to execute 100,000 transactions in a second.

He added that the rate of change will slow down over time. Buterin says many things could happen but the possibility of unknowns should decrease over time.
